Svensk man tar över kvinnoutskott i EU

Vänsterpartiets ersättare efter Eva-Britt Svensson i Europaparlamentet Mikael Gustafsson kommer högst sannolikt också att få ta över hennes ordförandeskap i parlamentets kvinnoutskott, även kallat jämställdhetsutskottet.
I nästa vecka när vänsterpartisten Mikael Gustafsson börjar som parlamentariker i Bryssel kommer han med största sannolikhet bli känd som mannen som kom in från gatan och fick en toppost som ordförande i ett av Europaparlamentets tjugo permanenta utskott.
Enligt vad Europaportalen erfar ska partigrupperna vara överens att ge Gustafsson posten som ordförande i kvinnoutskottet. Dock återstår en avgörande omröstning bland utskottets ledamöter. I bakgrunden finns en maktdelning mellan partigrupperna i parlamentet där vänstergruppen GUE/NGL efter EU-valet 2009 fick ordförandeposten i just kvinnoutskottet. Gustafsson blir dessutom den första mannen på posten.
Hur ska det här gå, tror du?
– Det är inte klart än, men jag har varit ordförande i andra sammanhang så ordförandeskapet i sig själv är nog inget problem, säger Mikael Gustafsson till Europaportalen.
Finns det en särskild poäng med en man som ordförande i ett kvinnoutskott?
– Jämställdhet är inte en kvinnofråga utan en fråga om demokrati och mänskliga rättigheter. Det är frågor som både män och kvinnor ska ta aktivt ansvar för och driva.
Vilka frågor vill du driva?
– Jag vill fortsätta Eva-Britts arbete att hitta en lagstiftning mot mäns våld mot kvinnor. Rätten till abort är en annan fråga och att motverka stereotypa könsroller en tredje fråga. Människor ska ha rätt att fritt välja i hela sitt liv och inte vara låsta vid halva, om man säger så.
