I nästan alla EU-länder har andelen förnybar energi ökat. Bäst i klassen är Estland och störst i klassen är Sverige.
Estland är det första EU-land som nått sitt EU-mål för 2020 på hur stor andel förnybar energi är av alla energi som konsumeras i landet. Redan 2011 har Estland passerat sitt nationella mål på en förnybarhetsandel på 25 procent. Det visar en rapport från Eurostat på måndagen som beskriver åren 2004 till 2011. Målet för EU är att andelen förnybar energi år 2020 ska uppgå till sammanlagt 20 procent.
Sverige, en jätte i sammanhanget, har som ensamt EU-land målet att nästan hälften (49 procent) av all energi som konsumeras i landet ska vara förnybar. Med bara 2,2 procentenheter kvar till 2020 tävlar man med Österrike och Bulgarien om vilket land som ska komma in som god tvåa. Sverige hade den största ökningen av förnybar energi av samtliga länder mellan 2004 till 2011 då andelen steg från 38,3 procent till 46,8 procent.
Värre är det för åtta EU-länder med Storbritannien och Belgien i spetsen som ligger längst från sina mål. Bortsett från Malta som har den i särklass lägsta andel förnybar energi, endast 0,4 procent med ett mål att komma upp till 10 procent och Luxemburg på 2,9 procent med målet 11 procent, ligger Storbritannien på den lägsta nivå i EU.
I Storbritannien var 2011 bara 3,8 procent av alla energi som användes förnybar och målet 15 procent tycks ligga långt bort. Andel förnybart i Belgiens energikonsumtion ligger på 4,1 procent medan målet om drygt sex år att att komma upp till 13 procent.
